Bhau Daji Lad has opened its doors to current Indian artists. It has also revamped its website, logged onto Facebook and plans audio tours next


The Bhau Daji Lad museum - Mumbai's oldest - is taking on a new avatar. In addition to its rich collection of artifacts from the late 19 and early 20 centuries, the 152-year-old museum has now opened its doors to contemporary Indian artists.

It is also planning to reestablish ties with the JJ School of Art by exhibiting works of artists who have studied at that institute.

"The principal of the JJ School of Art and the curator of the museum, for over 100 years, was the same person," says Tasneem Mehta, honorary directory of the Museum.

Konkani is one such language. Essentially colloquial, it is spoken across dinner tables, in fish markets and community courtyards in and around Mangalore, Karnataka.
