When the fakes beat the originals

May fake Twitter profiles are more popular than celeb originals. Arcopol Chaudhuri addresses a classroom of fakes, begging them to keep tweeting

Dear class,

I'm you biggest fan, so please continue tweeting in class.

It's become rather boring to follow a celebrity on Twitter. They neither reply to my tweets, nor do they retweet mine. So predictable they've become that I can manage their accounts in my sleep and type stuff like, 'heyaa pple...how is every1 doin...jus finished a shoot...went off well..believe in hard work, follow your dreams..luv ya!

Shaadi.com's survey reveals that 80% respondents won't marry a footballilliterate partner

Uttarika Kumaran

If the latest survey by Shaadi.com is anything to go by, finding a suitable marriage partner might boil down to whether you know your jabulani from your vuvuzela. Timed perfectly to correspond with the feverish run-up to the FIFA World Cup finals, the survey revealed that nearly 80% of people will not marry partner who doesn't share their passion for football.

The website has conducted trend surveys on cricket in the past, but noticing that their members were fairly engaged with the World Cup, Gourav Pakshit, business head - shaadi.com and dedicated football fan, decided to conduct a football survey. "We wanted to see the impact of large sporting events on the lives of out member base," he says.

Man sees Jesus on Google Earth

July 06, 2010

London:

An Internet fan has claimed that he saw lord Jesus Christ's image in a farm on Google Earth. Zach Evans, 26, spotted Christ's image as he strolled the map site looking for holiday destinations.

Reportedly, Christ can be clearly seen in satellite pictures of a field on farmland near Puspokladanu, Hungary. "I'm not a religious person looking for images of Mary or Jesus but this is obvious," the Sun quoted sales assistant Zach, a resident of Southampton, as saying.

When URLs could become 'slurls'

HILARIOUS WEB ADDRESSES REVEALED IN NEW BOOK

London:

A new book has revealed some of the Internet's most inadvertently amusing web addresses.

The home page for celebrity agent database Who Represents, is addressed www.shorepresents.com, the book titled slurls: They Called Their Website What? reveals.

The volume complies over 150 of these naively addressed 'slurls', or slur URLs. It shows how spaces, rather the lack of it, can change the meaning of a word: Big Al's bowling alley in Vancouver named its site 'I love Big Al's which read with spaces removed says 'I love bi gals'.

The list includes names such as the Mole Station Nursery, a business in Australia selling gardening goods which took on the web name 'molestationnursery' before it was changed to 'molerivernursery'.

"In a world without spaces we mentally insert our own. And you might not stick yours where I stick mine." The telegraph quoted author Andy Geldman as saying. Another blooper, the home of Pen Island is named www.penisland.net, while Les Bocages, a British firm of tree surgeons named after the a French word for 'groves' bear the web moniker 'lesbocages'

Some spoofs are glaringly amusing -the Italian home page for the energy company Powergen has the address 'powergenitalia'. Or take BlackHatEbook.com, a guide to black hat SEO, "the technique of building a website using unfair, sneaky, sly and underhand tactics which often break search engine guidelines". Unintentionally, it could be read as BlackHateBook.com, a guide to being a racist, for the rarely seen literate racist.

For the firms affected, the errors are not always taken lightly. A spokesman for Choose Spain, a holiday company found at choosespain.com, told The Sunday Times: " It was too late to change it once we realised."
