For thousands of passengers going to Konkan for Maharashtra's biggest festival, Ganeshotsav, there is something to cheer about.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has upgraded its website and online booking for all kinds of State Transport (ST) buses can now be done on the internet. According to officials, as many as 5,500 services across the state can now be booked online.

The website, www.msrtc.gov.in, until recently, had online booking only for specific buses. However, an upgrade version, which was inaugurated by MSRTC chairman Shudhakar Paricharak on Wednesday, will have a lot of new features, according to vice chairman and managing director Deepak Kapoor.

"The online reservation system has been upgraded for 5,500 services. This development has been timely since a lot of passengers wanting to go to their villages for Ganeshotsav can book their tickets online about a month in advance. Our target is to put as many as 10,000 services online," said Kapoor.

He added that passenger can register grievances online as well.
