SSC students told to fill forms before results

Education dept wants first part of online admission process to be done with now to reduce chaos later

Pick three for bifocal subjects

The state government had earlier announced that students can five a minimum of five college options in their preference list for bifocal subjects like computer science and information technology. However, in several areas within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), students do not have more than three colleges offering bifocals. Thus, the department has now decided to allow students to pick up a minimum of three colleges for bifocal subjects

Most senior secondary certificate (SSC) students in the state are anxiously awaiting their results and getting ready to tackle the online junior college admission process for the first time. The state education department, however, wants all SSC students to fill a part of the online admission form even before their results are out. At present, only 7,000 students have registered and filled up the part A of the form before the result, several city schools are making their students fill up the form to reduce work load later.

SG Chitale, director, Bhavan's group of colleges, who is also a member of the online admission committee, said, "We want all the students to finish filling part A of the form as it will reduce their workload after the exams. Part B, which is the preferences' form, can be filled only after the results are out as you need to fill in the scores. Once the results are announced, schools will anyway be loaded with a work."

Part A of the admission form seeks personal information of the student, where he/she is expected to fill in details of their board, seat number, name, contact details, reservation details, and additional details on special reservations. Most of the information will automatically appear on the screen, once the seat number is filled.

"In part A, most information of the state board students is fed to the software and students who have appeared from the first time in March 2010 have to just enter their seat number. Students from the reserved categories will have to take their school's help in filling the form. If all students are registered now, the admission process will be smooth later," said Chitale.

Part B of the online admission form, which is based on the student's preferences, can be filled only after the results are out. "Once the students get their scores, they will be in a position to decide on the course and college of their choice. The online website - www.fyjc.org.in - allows students to fill a practice form for the preferences. But, the actual form will be activated only after the SSC results are announced," an education department official said.

Fool - proof plan

Students who have committed mistakes while filling up the online admission form need not worry. The state education department has introduced a grievance redressal section in the form, which will allow students to make corrections before they finally submit the form. Also, the department is making last minute changes to ensure that there are no glitches during the admission process.
