Filmmaker's impersonator on Facebook befriends random people; director plans to approach cyber crime cell to find solution
MUMBAI
One of India's most celebrated filmmakers, Aditya Chopra, who respects his privacy so much that he rarely poses for pictures and even refuses to be interviewed by the media, has an impersonator on social networking site Facebook.
The impostor proclaims that he the son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra, has a brother named Uday and even put up Aditya's picture as his wall photo on the website. What's worse, sources said, was that the impostor claims Aditya is interested in dating women.
"The fake Aditya has also made many friends on the site, apparently also converses with random people and adds them as friends. What's most worrying is that's most worrying is that the impostor might be inviting people over for auditions to the Yash Raj Films property, thereby causing confusion that might end up maligning the filmmaker's image," an industry source told DNA. "The impostor has also posted an official Yash Raj Films site as his personal website and uploaded the interviews of the cast of Lafangey Parindey, including Neil Nitin Mukesh and a Deepika Padukone on the site. Aditya, according to the man's profile, also likes Steven Spielberg movies."
Industry sources said Aditya plans to take up the matter with the Mumbai police's cyber crime cell. He remained unavailable for comment, but a Yash Raj Films spokesperson told DNA, "We are aware of this and are looking at ways to address it. And no, Aditya Chopra is not on Facebook."
VICTIMS, ONE AND ALL
A fake Amartya Sen had a Facebook page with 490 fans. The impersonator was liberally posting views that radically contradicted the political and economic opinions of the professor.
DNA had reported on August 8 that Anil Kapoor is being impersonated on Facebook with the impostor also putting up a picture of the actor with his daughter Sonam on the website.
Actresses Sushmita Sen and Asin too have denied having accounts on Facebook, though there are pages in their name. The Sushmita impostor asked for money from fans for charity purposes.
