'I tried to persuade JOHN TO TWEET'

Actor Bipasha Basu fails at bringing her boyfriend onto a social networking site

Bipasha Basu is getting increasingly tech savvy of late. Apart from making her presence on Twitter, the actor is also promoting her personal website wherein she gives her fans a sneak peek in her personal life and has also started blogging. The actress who signed up to social networking site Twitter, less than a month back, is delighted with the opportunities that the online platform can provide. Bips already has over 60,000 followers on Twitter. "The first day when I tweeted everybody welcomed me; from Karan (Johar) Priyanka (Chopra), Mr Bachchan, Junior Bachchan (Amitabh and Abhishekh Bachchan) - all the people active on Twitter were very warm," she says, visibly impressed with the site. Bipasha her self follows close to 53 people - a meager number compared to the number of followers she has - including Bill Gates, Barack Obama and Dalai Lama besides several Bollywood personalities and her most admired Hollywood stars - Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ashton Kutcher. Basu finds it fascinating to be update of what her favourite people are up to. "At first, I thought Twitter was just like any other social networking site but once I signed up I realised it's such an empowering tool and allows you to connect with people, reach out to them and get to know the latest happenings." Bipasha recollects that recently she was out of the city on the day a bandh was declared and was constantly tweeting to keep herself updated on the scene back home. Apparently, many of Bipasha's fans have been urging her to persuade boyfriend John to get on the site too. She says, "I tried a lot - in fact I was told by many that they want John to tweet too - but he simply shuns the idea of social networking," says Basu.
