Doctor's song on Bandra's woes is a YouTube sensation

A parody on the problems in Bandra, sung to the tunes of the popular Aishwarya Rai song Kajra re, and created by an aggrieved Bandra resident, has become a huge hit online. The resident found his creative juices flowing because of the problems he faced in his beloved suburb.

Bad roads, pollution, garbage, traffic snarls, parking issues, overcrowding due to profusion of eateries and pubs: the list of complaints that 'inspired' long-time Bandra resident Dr Dilip Nadkarni, orthopaedic surgeon at Lilavati hospital, is seemingly endless. And the doctor, who penned the lyrics and set them to tune after he got fed up with the suburb's problems, said he is not surprised that the song has caught on.

Posted on YouTube recently, it has already had 39,483 views. Apart from this, it has also received almost a lakh hits on Facebook and Viddler, an interactive online video platform, where the doctor has posted the song along with videos of filthy spots in Bandra.

"The suburb has been reduced to a congested mass of filth and squalor and all the residents are unhappy about it," said Dr Nadkarni, who spent a week researching the condition of the suburb and talking to residents.
"I didn't want to offend anyone. But the fact is, we are all tired of running after authorities and 'netas'. Since music is my hobby, I felt that I could use it to highlight civic woes," said the doctor, who has lived in Bandra for over 40 years.
"This clip is a part of what I call the 'e-movement,' towards generating awareness. It is a commendable gesture by Dr Nadkarni, and we are all trying to solve the problems," said Bandra corporator Ashish Shelar.
