Googles changes China access after Beijing objects
Joe Mcdonald
BEIJING:
Google Inc said on Tuesday it will stop automatically rerouting users of its China search site to its Hong Kong site after Beijing said the company would lose its mainland Internet licence if the tactic continued.
Google shut down its China-based search engine on March 22 to avoid cooperating with the Chinese government's Internet filtering and has rerouted users to its unfiltered site in Hong Kong. But Google said regulators told the company its Internet license, which expires on Wednesday, would no be renewed if that continues. "They made it clear to us that they did not think the redirect was acceptable," said Jessica Powell, spokeswoman, Google. She declined to say what reasons the government gave for its objections. On a company blog, Google's chief legal officer, David Drummond said that Chinese authorities told the company "if we continue redirecting users our Internet Content Provider license will not be renewed."
Google still operates a music download service and several other features on Google.cn that are not affected by filtering regulations and Powell said it wants those services to continue. Instead of automatically being switched to Google.hk, visitors to Google.cn now see a tab that says in Chinese "We have moved to google.com.hk." Users can click on that tab to move to the site in Hong Kong, which is a Chinese territory but has Western-style civil liberties and no Internet filtering.
A foreign ministry spokesman, Qin Gang, said he had not seen Google's announcement and could not comment on it. "I would like to stress that the Chinese government encourages foreign enterprises to operate in China according to law."
Rerouting Chinese users to end: Google
Beijing: google has announced a 'New approach' in its ongoing battle with China over censorship until now, the firm automatically redirected Chinese users to its unfiltered search site in Hong Kong to get round censorship issues.

Now, insure in peace
When most of us think about insurance, it is with a sense of dread. How do you choose the best policy when you can't wrap your head around the terms and conditions? Usually, the solution is to simply let your agent make the decision for you. but one website wants to simplify the process - and place the onus of choosing the best insurance policy in your own hands.
The website - www.myinsuranceclub.com - compares the features and benefits of plans. For instance, if you are looking to buy a life insurance policy, the website shows you a list of choices based on your age, the amount you wish to be covered for and the type of plan that you prefer.
"We do not provide rocket science analysis of policies"says Deepak Yeomanry CEO of the company "We compare policies on the basic of ten basic parameters If you want to actually buy a policy, we put you in touch with the agent."
According to Yohannan what distinguishes the provides a completely tree service for customers, and therefore provides an unbiased view of what's.available in the market.
"I don't need to sell the product that fives me a better commission,'' he says. The website provides details on health, travel, auto, home, corporate insurance apart from life insurance.
