Home minister RR Patil announces 'Turant (Tatkal) 24'; online FIR launch soon

The state home department wants the police to register the complaints that to them within 24 hours. Home minister RR Patil announced on Monday that his department is launching 'Turant' (Tatkal)24' under which any case that comes to the police case that comes to the police will be registered in less than 24 hours. After a review of functioning of the police machinery on Monday, Patil said, "The first information reports (FIRs) need to be registered immediately and the non-cognizable offences and petty cases will have to be compulsory registered within 24 hours. We will soon issue a circular announcing the decision."
Patil said that his earlier announcement of online FIR is in the final stages of its launch. "The software is ready and the facility will be launched in Mumbai soon. We want the mechanism to be fool-proof before it is launched.Once it is finalised we will ask for the state cabinet's nod," he said.
Patil also ordered all IPS officers to be present in their respective officers on every Tuesday at 2pm to meet the general public. The superintendent of police (Sp) at district levels and deputy commissioner of police in cities are required to attend to the complaints personally. "At the same time, their subordinates, including assistant SPs and inspectors have also been asked to be in their respective offices so that the grievances and complaints are attended to at various levels simultaneously," said Patil.
Apart from being present in the offices at the stipulated time, the officers have also been asked to widely publicise the timings of their visits to various places at district and tehsil levels.
