Estranged hubby's revenge plan lands him behind bars

Uses colleague's computer to send lewd SMS to wife

Upset with his wife for leaving him, a 30-year-old man decided to teach her a lesson. He thought he had come up with the perfect plan when he discovered a website which allowed him to send SMSes without being discovered.

Using a friend's computer, Rizwan Shaikh Hussain Qazi, a resident of Andheri, allegedly sent vulgar and obscene message to his estranged wife. Qazi and his friend, Afreen Aqeel Patel, 23, a resident of Bandra (East), were arrested by the police on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the victim (name withheld) and Qazi had a rocky relationship which ended in them parting ways. The victim was staying with her parents since last year.

On October 2, 2009, she received an obscene and threatening messages on her phone. The SMS was sent from a Website. A few days later, her brother and sister also started receiving similar messages. "The messages would say 'I will throw acid on your face' or 'I will throw your son in the river'. The whole family was terrorised because of these messages," said an officer from the cyber crime cell.

The victim's father then filed a complaint with the cyber police. The police traced the IP address to Afreen's residence in Bandra. "During questioning, Afreen said she and Rizwan were colleagues and he was the one using her personal computer to send the messages," the officer said.

"We have sent her computer's hard disk to the Kalina Forensic Laboratory. They have been remanded in police custody till June 11," the officer said.
