While the first athletes only arrive on Saturday, up to eight members of the scouting party have been in Delhi for over a week making sure the accommodation was in a fit condition for the arriving sports persons.
With help from a dozen Games volunteers, comments on the Team Wales Facebook page said that the clean-up process had been a‘team effort’. In a comment under one of the pictures, the only thing that seemed to be missing were duvets on the bed, though in this heat those would probably be overkill.
The Welsh are definitely already making friends in the capital.A number of Indian volunteer shave already thanked the Welsh team for the positive exposure they have given them on the website, sorely needed after the raft of accusations aimed at the condition of the Village last week.
However, Welsh world and Olympic cycling champion Geraint Thomas announced he would not be attending the Games, citing health and safety concerns, together with three other British cyclists. “It’s a massive disappointment first and foremost but with the hygiene and the risk of getting ill, it was a massive risk,“ Thomas told PTI.
Team Wales had previously stated that improvements needed to be made on their accommodation.
Chris Jenkins, chef de mission for Wales, said the team were ‘very pleased with the results. Our tower is covered with Welsh flags —we’re already calling it the dragon’s lair’. He also thanked the OC for their help.
