MUMBAI: Teachers of schools, which are funded by the state government, will soon get their monthly salary online through a direct account credit system.
This is being done following complaints from the teachers, who stated that school managements, despite getting the required financial aid from the school education department, were not paying them their full salaries.
"The education department is going the e-way and this is one of the initiatives that is being worked on to ensure greater transparency in the process," said State School Education Minister Balasaheb Thorat in the State legislative council on Saturday.
He was addressing the issue of fee hike for which the government had issued a government resolution on July 15, to allow schools to hike fees up to 50 per cent of the existing amount.
It also puts the final decision of fee hike on the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and does not allow schools to charge any capitation fee.
Diwakar Raote, Shiv Sena leader, said that fee hike issue salaries of the teachers.
"We all know that there is a huge problem in teachers' salary payments since schools do not pay the entire amount. Why should we not have some machinery to make sure that government money reaches the teachers directly," Raote said.
Arun Gujrathi, Nationalist Congress Party legislator, said that school teachers are yet to get compensation as per the Sixth Pay Commission and after such a cap on fee hike, how will the state government ensure that schools pay the teachers as per the new rules.
