Mumbai:
After spinning his magic on the field one last time, Murali bowled over social networking site Twitter too.
After the spin maestro became the first bowler to capture 800 Test wickets, he stormed Twitter as well, making it as high as No.3 on trending topics worldwide.
Fellow cricketers sent out their regards to the spinner. Murali's closest competitor, former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne, was one of the first to wish him. "Congrats to murali on his 800th wicket and a wonderful career !!! Well done buddy awesome..."
South African skipper Graeme Smith seemed a relieved man, "Murali 800 test wickets !!!! brilliant. great test career and a really good man. glad I don't need to face him in test cricket again:).
Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi also heaped praise on him. "Murali gets to 800 in his last match on the last day... Holy cow!!! 800!!! How long is that record going to last. Standing ovation."
Murali fans went all out describing him as a 'legend', 'hero', 'sorcerer', 'masterchef', 'smiling assasin (sic)' and 'Sri Lankan soldier'.
One innovative tweet said, "Murali 800!!! Sounds like Maruti 800!!! very reliable but being taken off the market!!!"
"Murali is the 1st Sri Lankan to get into twitter trending topics :D" , another tweet said.
Murali's 800th victim was not spared, "If Ojha has done anything good in his cricket life so far... gifting No 800 to murali."
Not everyone was all praise for the bowler though, with one writing a poem, "throw throw throw your ball gently down the seam...murali murali murali murali chucks it like a dream Muttiah Muralitharan 800 not out."
