The bandh was the top trend topic on Twitter. On the site's homepage, the phrase 'Bharat Bandh' was at the top of the 10 trends. The last time and Indian topic topped the trend list was in 2009, during the LS polls.
The twitteratis gave reports on the strike, shared jokes and expressed their opinions on the bandh. "What was a more successful adventure for Ashok Chavan? Handling MNIK or handling Bharat bandh?" tweeted Bhuvnesh Chowla, a consult and corporate advisor. Aalaap Ghag tweeted, "Can we have another bharat Bandh soon to bring down the prices of McDonald's Chicken McGrill from Rs30 to Rs20 again?"
Writer Chetan Bhagat wrote: "July 5: India's biggest mass bunk ever." "LOL! Someone just asked me who is "Bharat Bandh" and if is he popular than Cristiano Ronaldo!" said Chetan R.
