Next year, admission will be quicker

The online admissions process for junior colleges has barely begun, but the Education Department has already set its goals for the next year.

"Next year, the process will be much shorter. We will be able to finish it in 20 to 25 days," said an Education Department official. Monday was the last day for students to submit their online forms. The first list for vocational streams will be up on Friday.

The department plans to have its website operational next year from January itself, so that students have enough time to go through the rules and practise filling the forms.

This year, students had 11 days over which to submit their forms online. Next year, officials said, students will get four days.

"By next year, students and schools will be better prepared and will not need as much time," said an official. "We will also begin the process earlier - within a day or two of the results being declared.

This is the third year that junior college admissions are being conducted online. Students were trained in their schools and submitted their forms through the schools, instead of the submission centres that the government had set up last year.
