Man arrested for hacking into wife's email ID, freed on bail

Officers of the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) recently arrested a person for allegedly hacking into the email account of his 28-year-old wife.

The accused has been identified as RB Anto Ramesh Paul, a resident of Chennai. Paul works in an info-media firm in Pune,



According to police, the victim (name withheld), is a resident of Tilak Nagar in Chembur. She got married to Paul in April last year. The couple stayed in Sunflower Apartments in Pune, where Paul was also working.

"The couple was going through a sore relationship, following which the wife left her Pune house in February this year and started living with her in-laws in Chennai. On Mach 20, she came to her maternal house in Tilak Nagar," said a police officer, " requesting anonymity.

The official added that after a few days, she could not access her email account as its password was changed by an unauthorised person "She then approached the crime branch and lodged a complaint in this regard," the officer said.

"The probe revealed that the said email account was being accessed from an IP address in Pune. Later, it was revealed that Paul was using the email account from his computer and had hacked into his wife's email account. He was arrested on July 12. It is still not clear why he did that, Paul was later released on bail," the officer said.

No clue why he did that

Police said the wife, who is from Mumbai, had moved out of their house in Pune because of some friction and lived in Chennai with her in-laws. When she came to Mumbai a few days ago and tried accessing her email, she fund that the password was changed. Her husband was arrested, but it's not clear why he hacked the ID
