Online applications flood Chinai College

Even as the debate over shutting down MVLU College and Chinai Junior College, Andheri, continues, both these colleges have many takers among students looking for affordable higher education.

According to the president of Chinai Bachao Samiti, this Year the college received more than 12,000 application forms online.

"The college is still very popular and students want to study there, because it can provide masters in arts, commerce, philosophy etc, in only Rs650," said Shailendra Kamble, joint convener, Chinai Bachao Samiti.

The colleges, with a capacity of over 1,800, had been on the verge of closure for the past two years. "We demand that the government should disallow closure of aided educational institutions. Today, only aided institutions are giving out affordable education," said Rajesh Sharma, ex-deputy mayor Mumbai and member of the Samiti.
