Online phase of jr college admissions ends today

Merit list for bifocal courses will be out on Thursday, for general category courses on August 9

Students seeking admissions to junior colleges are a step closer to beginning the academic year. The online phase of the process ends on Monday, and colleges will begin displaying merit lists for bifocal courses from Thursday. The merit lists for general category courses will be out on August 9.

Most schools have completed filling the online forms of students, and are now verifying the documents. About 2.03 lakh students have already submitted their forms in the city.

The ten-day-long process is finally over, and from Thursday, merit lists will be displayed at several colleges. This year, the educational department has decided to release the merit list for bifocal courses in science and commerce before the general merit lists. Though parents' organisations had demanded that both the lists be released simultaneously, the deputy director's offer has not complied. The first merit list for bifocals will be out in four days, while students will have to wait a little longer for the general list, as it will be declared only on August 9.

"We had distributed around three and half lakh copies of the online information booklets with unique login and passwords. So far, we have received almost all the applications. Students who have taken admisson in minority quota may or may not have filled the form. Also, there would be several students who have gone for in-house, management, and other admissions that happend offline," said on official from the deputy director's office.

With the online process coming to an end, schools are busy checking the forms for errors before submission "We are verifying the caste certificate and the sports certificates right now. We read each form carefully so that there are no glitches," said Meenakshi Kilpady, principal of Sarvapelli Radhakrishnan School, Malad.

Another principal from a suburban school said, "We are verifying the documents that students have to submit after getting admissions. Since the schools have filled the forms for students, it is our responsibility to ensure that students are allotted seats according to their choices."

Meanwhile, the PTA United Forum is demanding a separate merit list for students with additional marks in sports. Shalaka Slavi from the Forum said, "Students with additional marks in sports. Shalaka Slavi from the Forum said, "Students competing for junior college admissions should be treated on equal grounds. But due to the additional sports marks, students who have scored high purely in academics are going to lag behind."
